One piece of clothing that can be a challenge for hunters is what to wear under their hunting bibs. The wrong choice could lead to embarrassing moments or even bodily harm! In this blog post, we’ll discuss some of our favorite choices for what to wear under your hunting bibs and how each option will affect your experience as a hunter.
We Discuss Four Points on What to wear under hunting bibs
- Base Layer
- Mid Layer
- Down/Insulation Layer
- Wicking Layer
Base Layer
A base layer is the first layer of clothing you put on in cold weather to stay warm. Base layers are typically made from synthetic materials that wick moisture away from your body, trapping it in the fabric. This will keep your skin dry and prevent you from becoming chilled or uncomfortable while walking around outside during the winter months.
You are more likely to be successful in your hunt if you choose the right base layer of clothing. A good base layer will keep you warm and comfortable during cold-weather activities such as hunting, skiing or snowboarding, mountaineering, or any other outdoor activity that gets your blood pumping.

When it comes to staying warm in cold weather conditions, the insulating layer you choose is extremely important. Down has a high level of compressibility, which allows for easy storage in backpacks or luggage when not needed during activities like hiking or hunting. FAQ
Why wear a hunting bib?
A lot of hunters wonder why they should wear a hunting bib when they’re standing in the middle of a field waiting for deer to come. After all, what is there to protect you from? The answer is pretty simple. Brush and undergrowth that can tear up your clothes and skin without you even knowing it until after the shot has been taken.
You might be able to feel something sharp touching your legs. But unless you see the damage done by the time you get back to camp. All you’ll know about it is how much blood was lost during the day’s hunt. That’s where wearing a comfortable pair of hunting pants with knee pads comes into play.
What are the benefits of wearing hunting bibs?
The benefits of wearing hunting bibs are threefold. The first benefit is that it’s much easier to get in and out of a pair of pants with knee pads than it is to get in and out of chaps or some other type of protective clothing. You can simply step into the pants (which you will already be wearing) and put the suspenders on, which brings us to benefit number two: they keep your clothes clean, even if the only thing that touches them is some undergrowth brushing against them.
Some hunters like to go without any protection on their legs because it allows them greater freedom of movement when aiming down the sights, but if you’re new to hunting, you might want something more substantial between your skin and nature.
How to size hunting bibs?
Sit down! I’ll explain what you need to know about hunting bibs. If you’ve never ordered any before, it’s understandable that you won’t know which size to order. You can figure it out by reading this article.
First of all, why do the sizing at all? Why not just pick a popular size (medium) and save time? It’s because many people would like their garments to fit properly. Bibs are terrible if they’re too tight or too loose – there will be lots of problems with them!
I’m going to assume that the products’ sizes are measured according to American (ANSI) standards. So, having said that… Bibs are usually labeled according to waist size (around the consumer’s belly). The waist of bibs is measured according to 3 different ways:
– unstretched, flat dimensions of the fabric
– stretched, flat dimensions of the fabric
– waistband’s actual elastic length, inside the garment
To determine which waist size you need, you’ll have to measure your belly. What I mean by that is measuring its circumference. If you’re too lazy to do it, just add 2-3 inches to your pants’ waist size. Of course, the easiest would be to buy a pair of bibs in the nearest store and measure them.
What is a layering system?
A layering system is a way to determine how many layers of clothing (underwear and upper body) you should wear under your bibs. and the system is usually applied to hunters. You can choose from 2-3 layers of clothes, depending on how cold it is outside during the hunting season you are going to go in. So what does this have to do with sizing?
Well, bibs may be made of various types and thicknesses of materials which will affect the sizing and layering system. The thicker and warmer the high-quality fabric is, the fewer layers you’ll need to wear under your bibs. Keep that in mind!
Conclusion
When you are out in the wilderness hunting, it is important to make sure that your clothing is both comfortable and functional. One piece of clothing that can be a challenge for hunters is what they wear under their bibs. The wrong choice could lead to embarrassing moments or even bodily harm!
